First talk in 2020-21!

We are happy to share that NC State’s Geometry and Topology seminar is back, at least virtually.   Tye Lidman gave a talk on Aug 12, 2020.  More information is available below and the recording can be accessed by clicking on this link  Recording

Title: Khovanov homology detects the figure-eight knot

Abstract:  Given two knots, it is usually not too difficult to tell them apart using the right choice of invariant.  A harder problem is whether your invariant can identify a particular knot.  We will discuss the combinatorial invariant Khovanov homology, and show how it can detect some very simple knots.  This is joint work with John Baldwin, Nate Dowlin, Adam Levine, and Radmila Sazdanovic.
